Thinking about preaching (and pirates)

There are a number of blog posts that should be of interest to expositors making their way around the web.

• Have you ever heard that the Bible was written as “God’s love letter to you”? Todd Bolen deals with the whole notion of the Bible being written to you. His post has some excellent thoughts on meaning and context. See here.
• We just can’t get enough of this around here so Randy McKinion continues his discussion of preaching OT narrative which should be required reading for all who seek to preach the entire message of Scripture.
• See if you can follow this: Joe Thorn interacts as does Ray Van Neste with an article written by Steve Sjogren who writes for Rick Warren. Sjogren writes that pastors should not bother with preaching their own sermons but should plagiarize other more seasoned pastors. Me thinks Thorn and Van Neste get this one right.
• Still convinced “felt-need” preaching is the way to go and you just can’t get enough of guys like Joel Osteen? Then Al Mohler reminds us that not even a liberal Methodist Bishop would agree with you.
• In other news, today is “talk like a pirate day”. So here goes, “Yo ho, yo ho, the pirate life, The flag o’skull and bones A merry hour, a hempen rope, And hey for Davy Jones.” Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
