Be careful if you “love preaching”

“There are some preachers who so loudly declare their love of preaching that it is unclear whether it is their own performance and their love of power that has captured them or their desire to minister to the men and women who listen to them” (D. A. Carson, A Call to Spiritual Reformation, 82).

  1. I like it when a pastor thinks that what scripture means by “preaching” is a heavily rhetorical 3 point homily.

This quote is very good for personal introspection but not if you’re going to judge other people’s motives (which no person can do).

I think for many pastors it is a love-hate calling.

Disclaimer: my comment above is not meant to suggest that Paul was doing that in his post. I should have written my comment more clearly. Sorry.
