Jesus’ Sacrifice

I can not wait for the weekend knowing that come Sunday morning I will finally have the privilege of preaching through Colossians 2:13-14.

In preparing for this sermon I came across a wonderful quote by S. Lewis Johnson.  Dr. S Lewis Johnson wrote, “Paul cannot help but emphasize over and over again that Christianity is not concerned with a sacrifice we make, but with a sacrifice which we trust.”

Colossians 2:13-14, And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,  having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

  1. I preached this passage this past Good Friday. What a joy it is to rest in Jesus’ finished work and to call others to do the same!

Wow, such a good quote! It also reminds me of Romans 11:6

I’ve been preaching through Eph. 2:1-10 for Advent and have come to the parallel passage to yours (2:4-9). BUT GOD makes a sermon all its own! May the Lord bless your message this Sunday.
