God’s Priorities for Your Prayer Life

Do you ever wonder what kinds of priorities should be reflected in your prayers? Jesus Himself tells us in Matthew 6:9-13 where He exhorts us to pray for:

1. The Manifestation of Divine Glory (9)

2. The Coming of God’s Kingdom (10)

3. The Provision of Physical Needs (11)

4. The Cleansing of Daily Sin (12)

5. The Blessing of Spiritual Protection (13)

    Matt,

I like this list. Please share a little more under point 1 if you can.

    Hey Caleb,

As you might have guessed, this post is simply the outline of a sermon, one that I preached a few years ago. Here is an excerpt from my notes under point one:

To pray “Hallowed be Thy name” is to say to God: “May your glory and honor and majesty be displayed. May it be manifested. May it be revealed. May it be made known. May the essence of who you are in all of your glorious attributes be magnified throughout your creation! Your wisdom, Your power, Your grace, Your mercy, Your love, Your patience, Your holiness—all manifested and made known that You may receive the praise and honor and adoration that you so rightfully deserve: Hallowed be Thy name!”

As A.W. Pink writes: “This petition must take precedence, for the glory of God’s great name is the ultimate end of all things: every other request must not only be subordinated to this one, but also be in harmony with and in pursuit of it. We cannot pray aright unless the honor of God be dominant in our hearts.”

On a completely unrelated note, incredible game for the Bears yesterday. I taped it and speed-watched it last night after the evening service, and they were very impressive. I thought the Vikings were the only team for the Packers to fear in the NFC North, but I may wrong.

Great Pink quote above. Thanks for the excerpt.

The Bears surprised me as well. I will cheer for G.B. tonight but only because they are playing the Vikes.

    Blessings
